The 6 mm Black Safety Eyes are a staple in every amigurumi maker's toolkit. This size is widely considered the "standard" for small-to-medium crochet toys, perfect for everything from palm-sized teddy bears to intricate keychain characters made with cotton yarn.
They offer a perfect balance—large enough to give your toy a soulful expression, yet small enough to fit delicate faces. The deep black finish reflects light beautifully, adding a professional spark of life to your handmade gifts.
Why crafters love the 6 mm size:
The "Go-To" Size: Fits a huge variety of patterns and yarn weights, making them incredibly versatile.
Reliable Quality: Crafted from durable, smooth polystyrene.
Certified Safety: Tested to EN71-3 standards, ensuring they are free from harmful chemicals.
Secure Attachment: Comes with sturdy washers made from polyethylene that lock firmly onto the grooved stems.
Safety & Mounting Guidelines:
Secure Attachment: Yarn naturally stretches and loosens over time. To ensure your handmade toy meets the same safety standards as store-bought items, a secure mounting process is vital.
Melting Technique: For maximum security, we recommend melting the tip of the safety eye stem flat after attaching the washer. This creates a permanent "rivet" that is wider than the washer hole, preventing the eye from pulling through even if the stitches expand.
Creator Responsibility: Creating toys for children under three carries great responsibility. Ensure eyes are solidly affixed and inspect your projects regularly to maintain safety as time passes.
